SK Telecom T1 Becomes “League of Legends” World Champions for the Second Time

If you haven’t heard of League of Legends or the major world championship tournament that takes place every year, consider this your introduction to the growing industry of eSports and the professionals that make thousands of dollars and gain major notoriety in the world of video games due to their skills, strategy and experience.

The League of Legends Tournament

League of Legends is an online multi-player game published by Riot Games that involves gamers controlling a champion and battling other champions and teams of players. Ultimately, each team must try to destroy the other’s “nexus” – the center of each team’s base. League of Legends is one of the most-played PC games of all time.

Each year, Riot Games organizes regional tournaments in various continents, including Europe, North America and Asia. The top performing teams from each of the Championship Series go to the World Championship.

2015’s team winner, Korean team winner SK Telecom T1 became the first team to win the major tournament twice, taking home the grand prize of $2.3 million. They defeated another Koren team, KOO Tigers, by 3 to 1 in Berlin, Germany.

The Growing Attraction of eSports
