Marvel Partners with Telltale Games for 2017 Release
In what sphere of business isn’t Marvel excelling? Between the huge success of recent movie titles like Avengers: Age of Ultron, which grossed $27.6 million on its opening night, and Marvel’s future plans for more blockbuster hits, the company plans to add to its revenue by partnering with Telltale Games for a series set for release in 2017. So far, the partnership has reported they plan on crafting a console/PC game together, but will the title also be released for upright arcade machines? It’s too soon to tell, but further details are sure to follow.
History of Telltale Games
Telltale Games turned 10 years old last year. The company was founded by a trio of former LucasArts employees. Their niche is quite unique – they release game episodes rather than entire titles all at once. They self-publish their titles and have found success producing games based on The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. They have also produced Tales of the Borderland, based on the Borderlands game published by Gearbox Software. In December 2014 they announced an upcoming title Minecraft: Story Mode would be released in partnership with Mojang, the Swedish development company responsible for the original game.
Why Did Marvel Choose Telltale Games?
Marvel prides itself on producing content with strong storylines. Coincidentally (or not), so does Telltale Games. The game development company is known for their detailed approach to plot lines and character development – a quality highly valued by Marvel. Marvel was also looking for a studio that would produce eye-catching titles gamers can’t help but play.
Marvel Executive Producer Mike Jones said, “If it doesn't turn heads, if it doesn't get you excited to talk with your friends, it's not a Marvel game. It has to command attention.” They’re confident that Telltale Games is the game development studio that will successfully accomplish this feat with the upcoming project.
What Story Will the Game Focus On?
For now, Marvel and Telltale are leaving everyone in suspense. There has been no official word regarding which superhero classic will be further immortalized in an epic, episodic gaming adventure, but they have said it will be “special,” and they are “excited about it.”
We’ll have to wait until the curtain is pulled back a bit more to get the full picture of what 2017 will bring, but until then, purchase some movie tickets and pass the popcorn for your fill of the latest dose of Marvel entertainment.
