Get Ready for Classic Arcade Game Action in Pixels
Do you love classic arcade games? Maybe you spent hours on the Pacman arcade machine at the local arcade when you were young. Did you ever wish you were actually in the game? That’s the storyline of the upcoming movie, Pixels, set to be released in July 2015. The film will star Kevin James, Adam Sandler and Michelle Monaghan.
Aliens Attack Earth
Far away from planet Earth, aliens access footage of classic arcade game footage. Instead of recognizing it as a game, they think that Earthlings mean it as a message of war. They decide to retaliate, and model their attack after the characters from classic arcade games.
To defeat the arcade attackers, Adam Sandler and his two arcade-obsessed friends (Josh Gad and Peter Dinklage) must use their knowledge of arcade games to combat the alien invasion attack on Earth and save the planet. Michelle Monaghan plays a military weapons specialist and becomes Sandler’s romantic interest. Kevin James plays the President, with Jane Krakowski as the First Lady and Sandler’s former girlfriend. Additional character appearances from the games Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Frogger, and Donkey Kong can be expected.
Pixels Conception and Production
In 2010, Adam Sandler hired a screenwriter to adapt Patrick Jean’s short film Pixels into a full-length feature. Casting and production was decided and filming took place in Toronto from May-September of 2014. Chris Columbus, director of Home Alone and The Goonies was chosen as head of the project, with production backed by Columbia Pictures, 1492 Productions and Happy Madison Productions, Sandler’s own production studio.
Pixels is sure to delight arcade game fans young and old, with a little something for everyone: action, adventure, nostalgia and comedy. If you’re a longtime classic arcade games fan, plan on taking the whole family to see Pixels on July 24, 2015.
