Capcom’s Newest Creation: “Attack on Titan” Coming Soon

At the Japan Amusement Expo, which took place on February 14 and 15 at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba City, Capcom revealed news that will excite anime fans everywhere. Branching out from their classic custom arcade machines, with titles like Street Fighter, the Japanese publishing company is looking to tap into two markets simultaneously: anime and arcade.

Legendary Anime Title: “Attack on Titan”

In Japanese, the manga series by Hajime Isayama is called “Shingeki no Kyojin”, or “Advancing Giants.” The storyline is based around the main character, Eren Yeager. The population lives in cities surrounded with giant walls to ward off attacks from monstrous creatures known as “Titans.” After his city is attacked and his mother devoured by the Titans, he and his two companions join the forces fighting back against the enemies.

The 15 volume series has been adapted into a light novel and television show. Multiple video games have already been published from the likes of Nitroplus and Spike Chunsoft. Even the Japan location of Universal Studios has an attraction dedicated to the series. Overall, the series has enjoyed major success, with over 45 million volumes in print.

Capcom Will Put an Arcade Twist on Anime

Though Capcom’s announcement came as a delight to many fans of both anime and arcade gaming at the Japan Amusement Expo, developers were tight-lipped and short with the details. The only information revealed thus far was a picture of the game’s title card and the promise for more details in coming months.

One thing is certain – Capcom is sure to put its own spin on the well-known anime title, but how will the graphics translate to an arcade setting? For now, Capcom is busy spreading the word about Street Fighter V, but soon the developer will have to let loose and give in to the anticipation from anime/arcade fans worldwide.
